Original Art vs. Prints: How to Know Which One You Need
Original artwork is any art produced by an artist's own hand: the original, authentic piece, not a reproduction. That includes paintings, drawings, sculpture, and textiles made directly by the artist. It's a way to express yourself or your business and its culture, sharing the creativity of a professional artist while transforming a space into something engaging and inspiring.
I work with clients to curate and install original works across homes, offices, and places of business. Original artwork can add ambiance to hotels, apartment buildings, multi-family residences, and healthcare facilities, and it can live on a public space or an interior or exterior facade.
I work with artists across a wide range of mediums: oil painting, acrylic painting, watercolor, drawing, photography, metal sculpture, resin, textiles, ceramics, woodworking, digital art, ink and pen, graphite and pencil, neon, leather, rope, clay, mixed media, and more. My roster spans styles and specialties too, from illustrators, muralists, and street artists to portraiture artists, landscape artists, abstract artists, and installation artists.
Original artwork concepts can be personal, or built around a business, brand, or logo. They can reference specific people and places, follow a storyline, or take abstract form. Whatever the direction, the work I curate is created to be culturally sensitive, socially aware, and inclusive.
Price points vary depending on size, artist, medium, substrate, level of detail, and the exposure and supplies required. That's where prints earn their place: a well-produced print costs less, works well at scale across multiple rooms, and still lets you build a cohesive look without commissioning an original for every wall. Original work makes the most sense when a piece needs to be the focal point of a room, something one-of-one that reflects a specific story. Prints make sense when you want consistency and scale without the price tag of a dozen commissions.
I can source, ship, and install original artwork to all major U.S. cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Atlanta, Miami, and beyond.
